EMNCG Summer Music Camp 2012
2012/10/14 19:21:16 (3253 reads)

I am extremely pleased to announce that the second EMNCG Music Camp was held from Monday, August 27th until Saturday, September 1st 2012 at Father Gerard's Environmental Center in Le Bassin, near Gonaives. Sixty-six students attended this week-long instructional camp. Three meals a day and very simple sleeping arrangements were provided at the center. It was a true luxury and an amazing experience for the children involved...more below

This year twenty-five girls attended the camp, meaning about 40% of those children attending were female. This is an additional 20% up from last year's camp. We hope to encourage young women to participate more in the music school in order to promote equal rights for women in Haiti, a very male-dominated society.

The music camp instructors were:
Maestro Gilbert Benoit
Jeaniton Wilky
Little Brother Daniel (trumpet)
Isma Fréderic
Adeclat Emmanuel (percussion)
N estimable Julie (trombone, turba, baritone)
Hermane Flobert (Clarinet)
Christmas Frantz
Leonardo Célifils
Riché Wickenson and Christian Anthiobert were chaperones
We of Musical Haiti would like to thank these teachers for their time and efforts with the children.  EMNCG is now hoping to hold four regular weekly music classes at La Sainte Famille beginning October 26th. We hope to know more as time goes on.
