(USA) Meeting with MU non-profit advisor
2012/5/5 19:34:22 (2044 reads)

Jennifer Maney and Maryann Desaulniers of Musical-Haiti (USA) recently met with a Marquette University non-profit advisor to gain insight into the process of attaining non-profit status. Musical-Haiti (CH) has attained non-profit status in Switzerland, but Musical-Haiti (USA) is currently operating as a charitable organisation.

Even without 501c3 non-profit status, Musical-Haiti (USA) can collect donated instruments and send them to Haiti, can sell items by asking for a suggested donation, and raise up to $5000 annually for various projects.  We would like to raise larger sums, however, to cover the cost of the music building we are planning in Gonaïves, Haiti (cost:  $75,000).

Currently, tax exempt status for Musical-Haiti (USA) is pending as we search for an established non-profit organisation with which we can enter into a Fiscal Sponsorship agreement.  Our charitable organisation is too small to support the administration needed for applying for a 501c3 on our own (the form is like 27 pages long and requires assistance from an attourney).

In the future, we hope to work under the umbrella of B.L.U.M.E. (see previous news article), but until they are established we ask for any suggestions from our readers for other non-profits who may be willing to work with us.  Thanks!
